A Different Idea of Luxury

A Different Idea of Luxury

What this sentence really means & what we want to show here

The other evening, I was sitting on the living room floor with our two boys. The older one is six, the younger one is four. At some point, we started talking about my childhood, and I told them that as a little boy, I did something they can barely imagine today: sorting hangers in my family's store. Again and again, for hours on end.

They looked at me as if I had told a joke.

But that's exactly what it was. Those hours between clothes racks and changing rooms, listening to customer conversations, slowly understanding what it was all about – that shaped me. Since 2005, I have officially been part of this company. But honestly, it started much earlier.

C.Wirschke did not originate in Düsseldorf. The story begins in Berlin with a family who understood fashion as something serious from the very beginning. As a craft, an attitude, and the conviction that a well-made piece of clothing is more than just fabric and seams. It tells a story. About the person wearing it. And about the person who chose it.

This conviction moved with us to Düsseldorf. To Steinstraße 2, where we are today.

What I have learned in all these years as a boy with hangers, as a young man behind the counter, and today as a father and owner, is actually quite simple: the most beautiful moments in this store don't happen at the point of purchase, but in the conversation leading up to it.

When someone comes in and says: I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, but I'll know it when I see it. When Patricia and I go through the collections together with someone and feel how uncertainty suddenly turns into clarity. When a customer tries on a jacket and falls silent for a moment because they feel it fits.

These moments happen daily. And at some point, we started thinking: Why don't we talk about them?

Not about the products. But about what's behind them. The curiosity that drives us to trade fairs in Florence or Paris. The question of why we carry a certain label and consciously not another. The people behind the pieces. And also the Düsseldorf we love: restaurants, art houses, the quiet corners away from Königsallee.

All of this is part of what we mean when we say: A Different Idea of Luxury. Not a manifesto. Not a campaign. Simply an attitude that began in Berlin, grew on Steinstraße, and now finds its place here too.

For a long time, luxury was primarily one thing: visible. The big logo. The name everyone knows. I understand the appeal. But every day I meet people who are looking for something else. Something quieter. A piece that lasts. A brand with a story behind it, not just a marketing budget.

C.Wirschke is made for these people. Since Berlin and since the first hanger-sorting hour. And since the day my two boys looked at me that way – as if I were a little crazy, but also somehow fascinated.

We are happy to show you a piece of it.

Sincerely,

Clemens & Patricia Wirschke
