According to Chinese legend, silk was first discovered by Concubine Lei Zu, who had wild cocoons fall into her cup while she was enjoying afternoon tea in her garden. While attempting to remove them, she discovered the fine, seemingly endless silk threads—and even though the discovery of silk can no longer be determined with certainty, the beginnings of its processing can be traced back to ancient China.
